This page outlines the standards and practices that guide my Home Stewardship approach to residency services — providing elevated care for homes, pets, and plants.
It explains how I work, the commitments I uphold, and how everything entrusted to me is cared for safely, securely, and in alignment with your household’s unique needs across house-sitting, pet-sitting, and plant-sitting arrangements.
Taken together, these policies and standards form a single, integrated framework designed to be read as a complete resource. Each section contributes to a clear and consistent understanding of how Home Stewardship services are delivered, supporting transparency, shared expectations, and a well-managed residency from check-in day to check-out time.
Last Updated: 1 May, 2026This section explains the key terms used throughout the Home Stewardship framework.
Understanding the definitions for these words upfront helps clarify the services, responsibilities, and standards followed, so you know exactly what to expect when your home, pets, or plants are in my care.
The combination of house-sitting, pet-sitting, and plant-sitting services included in an agreed residency arrangement.
Personal or property-related details shared by a homeowner or tenant that are protected and not disclosed without consent.
The obligation to protect information learned during a residency and use it only for Home Stewardship purposes.
The professional practice of acting with quiet respect and restraint within a private home, avoiding unnecessary attention, disclosure, or intrusion into personal matters.
A higher level of attentiveness and responsibility, reflecting careful stewardship and respect for the home, pets, and plants, central to the Home Stewardship approach.
The individual authorised to permit residency for Home Stewardship services. This includes tenants with written approval from the property manager. Property managers, real estate agents, and any non-residing landlords or property owners are not considered homeowners within this Home Stewardship context.
My approach to providing conscientious, reliable, and elevated care for homes, pets, and plants. Elevated care is what distinguishes this service from ordinary house-sitting.
The temporary residence within a property to ensure its care, security, and general oversight. In the context of Home Stewardship, this extends to the thoughtful management of the household environment, including pets and plants, in line with established standards.
The routines and practices followed to ensure safe, consistent, and high-quality care.
The short-term, in-home care of animals while their guardian is away. Responsibilities include upholding daily routines such as feeding, exercise, hygiene, and companionship. Within Home Stewardship, this service emphasises close attention to behaviour, wellbeing, and comfort, guided by established standards.
The ongoing care of indoor and outdoor plants during a client’s absence to maintain their health and condition. This involves appropriate watering, environmental awareness, and adherence to provided instructions. From a Home Stewardship perspective, the focus is on consistency, observation, and respect for the living environment.
The limits maintained to respect privacy, ensure safety, and uphold ethical service.
The protection of personal spaces, routines, communications, and household information during a residency.
The agreed period during which Home Stewardship care is provided at a homeowner’s property.
Written acknowledgment from a property manager or landlord that the tenancy or occupancy arrangement allows for Home Stewardship services (house-sitting) and is approved.
The mutually agreed understanding that Home Stewardship services are provided in exchange for temporary residency privileges or other agreed arrangements, reflecting a fair balance of responsibility, care, and benefit between both parties.
This section explains the ethical principles and service standards that guide my Home Stewardship practice. It outlines how care for homes, pets, and plants is delivered, and the professional boundaries maintained. It also outlines the shared expectations that support a safe and respectful residency.
Home Stewardship is built on trust. When a homeowner invites someone to reside in their home, they are entrusting not only property, but pets, routines, and personal space.
My role is to maintain stability, respect the home as a lived environment, and support the wellbeing of pets and plants through attentive, consistent care.
These principles guide all decisions and actions throughout a residency, including the way privacy, discretion, and confidential information are handled.
Respect & Care
Homes, belongings, pets, and plants are treated with attentiveness and consideration, preserving the comfort and routines established by the homeowner.
Honesty & Integrity
Communication is clear and truthful. Any issues are shared promptly so decisions can be made as needed.
Responsibility & Good Judgement
Actions are taken thoughtfully and conservatively, prioritising safety, wellbeing, and common sense in all situations.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Personal information, routines, and the living environment are treated as private. Information is used only for care and communication and is not shared without permission.
Mutual Respect
Residencies are supported by clear expectations and respectful collaboration, recognising the home as a private personal environment at all times.
These standards describe how ethical principles are applied in practice.
Care Standards
Pet routines, feeding, exercise, and wellbeing instructions are followed carefully.
Plant care and environmental maintenance are carried out as agreed.
The home is maintained in a clean, orderly, and secure condition throughout the residency.
Communication Standards
Updates are provided at an agreed frequency regarding pets, plants, and general home status.
Any unexpected issue is communicated promptly.
Questions or uncertainties are clarified rather than assumed.
Personal information is handled respectfully and only used for purposes directly related to the residency.
Professional Boundaries
Services are limited to agreed home, pet, and plant stewardship responsibilities.
Personal care, medical support, property renovations, or unrelated domestic work are not undertaken.
The home remains a private residential environment unless otherwise agreed.
Health, Safety & Environment
Residencies must provide a safe and habitable environment consistent with normal residential standards.
Situations presenting significant risk may require reassessment or decline of service.
Care decisions prioritise wellbeing and safety at all times.
Security & Access
Access instructions and security practices are followed carefully.
Keys, codes, and entry information are handled confidentially.
Property access is not shared without homeowner consent.
In practice, this means:
Preparing in advance by reviewing care instructions;
Maintaining established routines to minimise disruption;
Communicating promptly about any concerns or changes;
Leaving the home in excellent condition at the end of the residency;
Treating the home as confidential personal space at all times; and,
Conducting all residency activities with discretion so the home continues to feel private, secure, and undisturbed.
Home Stewardship operates as a cooperative arrangement.
Homeowners remain responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance/s and ensuring the home is safe and suitable for residency.
Reasonable care is taken at all times; however, normal residential risks cannot be eliminated.
Clear communication channels support practical and respectful resolution if issues arise.

the condition and needs of the home;
pet temperament and care requirements;
clarity of instructions provided; or,
residency duration and circumstances.
Prospective homeowners are encouraged to discuss their specific needs directly so expectations can be clearly aligned.
Testimonials may be selected for publication based on relevance, clarity, or usefulness in explaining services. Not all feedback received will necessarily be published.
